Sail Back in Time on the
Join us for a Whidbey Island sailing experience on Penn Cove!
We depart the picturesque Coupeville wharf every Friday, Saturday and Sunday on our historic 1925 wooden pilot house schooner.
Sit back as the sails are hoisted, the engine turned off, and we cruise across the water while enjoying the scenic views of Penn Cove, Mount Baker and the Cascade Range. This is a gentle sailing experience perfect for the whole family. We sail where the wind is the best, perhaps past Snakelum Point where the Lower Skagit Tribes lived to the east, or the Penn Cove mussel farms to the west.
Sightings of seals, bald eagles, herons, and osprey are common, as well as the occasional whale including orcas. Our all volunteer crew happily shares their knowledge about the area’s flora and fauna as well as maritime history. Bring along some snacks, a meal from one of Coupeville’s restaurants or a bottle of wine.
Explore the pilothouse, galley and salon below deck, take a turn steering the ship, or just sit back and relax with the wind in your hair. Come sail back in time to the days when the Mosquito fleet and Native American wooden canoes plied these waters. This is a Whidbey Island experience you won’t want to miss!
Schooner Suva is a classic schooner built in Hong Kong in 1925. She departs the Coupeville wharf from May to mid-October offering two hour day sails for up to 24 passengers every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Suva also offers private charters, making it the perfect setting for a family reunion, office outing, wedding, birthdays, or get together with close friends! Be sure to check out our Special Events page where we offer many public special events throughout the season including visiting the Penn Cove mussel farm, sunset cruises, trips to boat shows, history sails and cruises with partner business.
